Grandmaster Michael Rohde to visit Poughkeepsie

Michael Rohde, chess grandmaster (GM), will visit Poughkeepsie on Saturday April 30, 2016 from noon until 4:00PM. We will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) on the 2nd floor of the College Center at Vassar College.  After a 1 hour talk, GM Rohde will play up to 40 chess players simultaneously.

  • National High School Champion 1974
  • New York State Champion       4 times
  • Won brilliancy prize in three consecutive US Championships

  • Marshall and Manhattan Chess Club Champion
  • Wrote game of the month column in Chess Life magazine 1991 – 1996
  • Wrote 2 books: “Play the Sveshnikov” & “The Great Evans Gambit Debate”
  • Winner of numerous other chess tournaments

 

The fee to play GM Rohde is $10 however there is free admission for Vassar College students, faculty and staff. While we have no limit to the number of spectators we are limited to 40 players competing.  Seats to play may be reserved in advance as follows:  20 seats for Vassar-Chadwick Chess Club members; 10 seats for Vassar students, staff and faculty and 10 seats for the general public.

A check for $10 should be received by Michael O’Connor[1]  by April 21 to reserve a seat.   (Vassar students, staff and faculty may just send an email to Michael O’Connor at ocnnr@aol.com.).
