2016-2017 Grand Prix

We run a grand prix during the school year at Vassar. Every non-blitz event on Mondays is eligible for inclusion in this event. Each player that plays in our club during an eligible event is automatically entered, so just show up and play! Three points for a win, two for a draw, and one for a loss (half point byes are not included for scoring).

Standings will be updated here and on our Facebook page after each event, and prizes will be announced in 2017.

Equalized Match Pairings

The results from tonight’s Equalized Match Pairings – A last minute switch to G40,d10 allowed players to play a game with each color. Chris v Leo (draw, Leo had to leave early); Craig v George (1-0, 1-0); Seamus v JJ (1-0, 1-0); and John vs Ori (0-1, 0-1). Thanks to all who played! On to the Falling Leaves Swiss!

Fall Blitz

Leo Freyvert won the Fall Blitz, just edging out Craig Fisher by a count of 6.5 to 6! Thanks to the faithful six that played this event. On to the Equalized Match Pairings next Monday!

Millionaire Chess 2016: Atlantic City

Vassar’s own Chris Brooks (u2200 section) and Darius Jafary (u1800 section) competed in the just completed Millionaire Chess Open. Chris finished with a respectable 4 points out of 7, while Darius finished with 3 out of 7. Next up for Chris is the Eastern Chess Congress at the end of the month.

Hartford Open & Upcoming Events

Brandon Wang and Chris Brooks at the Hartford Open

Brandon Wang scored an impressive 3.5/5 (winning the u2210 prize) and Chris Brooks a solid 2.5/5 in the 3-day Open section of the event. No major upsets were recorded this time around by either player.

Next up:

Chris Brooks at the Millionaire Chess Open (u2200 section), and Darius Jafary will also be at the Millionaire Open, playing in the u1800 section.
