Rudy Van Dommele leads this year’s DCC with a perfect 3/3. Leo Freyvert and Rasit Topaloglu follow with 2.5, and five others follow with 2. Still anybody’s tournament, and two rounds to go. A reminder that an emergency meeting will commence next Monday before round 4.
John Weigand won the HIgh School Reserve section of our state scholastic championship with a final score of 5.5/6! He blundered in the final game and merely was able to salvage a draw with an opposite colored bishop ending. He also wins free entry into this year’s NYS Championship. Congrats to him!
Due to Winter Storm Riley related damage, current VP Craig Fisher were not in attendance at the club meeting, same goes for current secretary Ernie Johnson. Up for discussion was the lack of attendance during the winter, and earlier finish times for most tournaments. We do have a Coldenham tournament coming up on April 28, but no simul this year. Blitz events have been discontinued for the remainder of the season. The Social Media manager was been renamed Online manager, with expanded duties. The secretary position was eliminated. Assistant TD’s have been officially added as staff. As far as staff elections go:

We have leftover shirts for sale from the Amateur Team East! They are $15 apiece (what we paid for each of them), and sizes include L, XL and 2X while supplies last.
Our annual club meeting will take place on March 5 at 645p. We will elect new club officers to one year terms. President, Vice President, Treasurer titles return, Online Manager and Assistant Chief TD will be new titles. The Secretary will be abolished. The online manager will oversee operations with social media, club contacts, and update the Grand Prix. The Asst. Chief TD will run some of the tournaments. Possible compensation will be discussed later.
Our flagship tournament begins next Monday! Please be there by 715p for registration. Will Colin Denniston defend his title. Is this the year young upstarts Trevor Brooks and John Weigand finally make noise for the club’s biggest prize? Stay tuned to find out – or better yet participate!
ATE 2018 final:
VC’s Brook Endings ended the tournament with 3.5/6, a half point out of tying for first u2000. Trevor Brooks lost in the final round in his bid for a 6-0 tournament and a prize. Chris Brooks powered his way to a win over NM Sandi Hutama, finishing 2-2 against masters in this event. VC’s Earth, Wind and Skewer finished with 3/6. See ya next year!
Darius Jafary won the Amateur East Warmup, winning both his games, including an upset win against Bob Simmons last Monday. We had two new kids show up to play, welcome Joshua Park and Konner Johnson! A reminder that the club is closed next Monday, February 19 due to the Amateur Team East. The Dutchess County Championship will begin the following week on the 26th, with the annual club meeting to follow on March 5.
