Frozen Leaves Swiss Final

In a stunning conclusion to the Frozen Leaves Swiss, Colin Denniston toppled Leo to take 1st with 3.5/4. Rasit Topaloglu captured the u1900 prize. In a honorable mention, JJ Oracz drew resident expert Chris Brooks, despite a 450 point rating difference despite a back and forth endgame that could have went either way.

Fall Quick

Ernie Johnson won the Fall Quick with a perfect 3/3! Craig Fisher and Trevor Brooks tied for 2nd with 2 points each. Ian Remsen, a newcomer from Saugerties, joined the club but had a tough start to his USCF chess career.

World Cadets

Brandon Wang recently had the honor and privilege of qualifying for and participating in the World Cadets – part of the World Youth Chess Championship and featuring the best chess players in the world under 12 years old (broken into 3 sections of U8, U10 and U12, for boys and girls). Brandon was part of a large US contingent which ended up taking two gold and one bronze medal.

The tournament, 11 grueling rounds, took place in Batumi, Georgia (the country, not the state). I’m sure it was a memorable trip for both Brandon and his father.

The following are two of Brandon’s wins (he finished with a very respectable 5.5/11). Due to time constraints, one game is presented without commentary, and the other just has light notes.

More details (and games) can be found at the official tournament site.
