Dore Sheppard wins 2019 Memorial Tournament

Eleven players attended the 2019 Memorial Tournament, which took place in Coldenham (aka, Ernie’s satellite chess office).

The three round G/60+d5 event was won by National Master Dore Sheppard with 3/3, followed by Trevor Brooks (2/3) who edged out Howard Jacobus for 2nd place. Howard, by virtue of his impressive result and pre-tournament rating of 1438, received the booster prize (awarded to best score in the 2nd half of the field).

Matan Prilleltensky is 2019 DCC Champion

With a last round victory over previously undefeated Mark Courtney, NM Matan Prilleltensky has won the 2019 Dutchess County Chess Championship with 4.5 out of 5. Mark takes 2nd on tiebreaks (4/5), followed by Trevor Brooks (who defeated Ernie) and JJ Oracz (1737 pre-tournament rating) with an impressive last round win over Rudy. 2019 Marchand Open

A few current and past club members ventured up to Rochester this St. Patty’s weekend to participate in this year’s Marchand Open. FM Bobby Sulman finished up with 4.0/5, which was good enough to tie for 3rd with five others, including GM Shabalov and current DCC top rated NM Matan Prilleltensky. Mat also played to a tidy middlegame draw with former DCC champ Chris Brooks in round 3, who tied for the 1st u2200 prize with two others with 3.5/5. Congrats to all who played, and good chess!

DC Chess Tournament Round 4 Standings

With one round to go, Mark Courtney leads the DCC with a perfect score. On his tail, with 3.5, is NM Matan Prilleltensky. Mark and Matan are destined to meet next week. A four way tie for third place, with 3/4, are Rudolf Van Dommele, Ernie Johnson, Trevor Brooks and JJ Oracz. See below for full standings.

Haldane’s Chess Team is going to Dallas this year for the Junior High School Nationals in April. The purpose of this tournament is to reduce team room and entry costs for participants. We will be offering Two USCF Rated Sections and One Unrated Section. Food, drinks and merchandise will be sold

Rated Sections: Championship: K-12, Rated >700 with a time control of G/40, d5. 4 Rounds. Reserve: K-12 Rated <700 with a time control of G40, d5. 4 rounds. Unrated Sections: Rookie: 1st – 4th grade. 4 rounds of chess with notation encouraged. Trophies for all. Prizes: Each section will have trophies awarded to the top 5 participants
